XCLUSIVE: 2012 HEADIES AWARD WINNERS AND MORE

The third edition of the hip-hop awards was cohosted by singer Omawumi and rapper M.I.
The high point of the event, which started three hours later than the schedule 9pm, was when fast rising
lyricist, Olanrewaju Ogunmefun, popularly known as Vector the Viper was announced as winner of two
awards, Best Rap Single and Lyricist on the Role.
M.I and Omawumi thrilled the audience with their little song titled 'The Headies'.
Omawumi, who often tease herself with the name 'Urhobo mama' because of how she blends the pidgin
English with the regular English language, promised the audience that she was not going to speak an atom of
pidgin while hosting the event placing a bet of N500,000.
The winner of the 2010 MTN Project Fame, Chidima opened the show thrilling the audience with her latest
song"Kadike"
Psquare return to the Headies' honours list after a two-year break and with their 'Invasion' album the pop
twin won two awards – in the 'Album of the Year' and 'Best R&B-Pop Album' categories. Also, Jude Okoye,
Psquare's elder brother received the award for 'Best Music Video,' beating tough competition from Clarence
Peters.
The biggest award of the night 'Artiste of the Year' went to EME signee Ayo 'Wizkid' Balogun. The 22-year-
old, who was the third and final act to walk away with two awards was also awarded the 'Revelation of the
Year' award.
Wande Coal and Tiwa Savage of the MAVIN Records crew picked up awards for 'Best Vocal Performance' in
both male and female categories – with Wande Coal's 'Private trips' and Tiwa Savage's 'Love me 3x'.
The 'Next Rated' award which comes with the special prize of a Hyundai Sonata was won by DavidO.
Highlights of the show were the live band performances from Bez and Praiz, who rendered their duet 'Stupid
song', Timi Dakolo who gripped the audience with his 'Great nation' song, and surprisingly rookies Burna
Boy and Dammy Krane.
Winners of the Headies Rockie competition, Burna Boy and Dammy Krane performed also thrilled the
audience with their performance.
The so much talked about "Stupid Song" by Bez ft Praiz got the audience excited.
Other performances were from Omo Baba Olowo also known as DavidO, Timi Dakolo , Chuddy K and Brymo.
The Headies brought together all the Nigerian musicians in the 80s and 90s as a way of reunion and letting
them know the impact they have made in the music industry and the traces they have left behind.
These include Onyeka Owenu, Oris Wiliki, Mike Okori, Baba Fryo, Sir Shina Peters, Fatai Rolling Dollar,
Daddy Showkey and many more.
Verve card gave an opportunity to the audience to win the verve surprise winner gift through a raffle draw.
The lucky winner got the star prize of N500, 000.
Nominees and winners absent at the event included the winner of the Best Album of the year, P Square,
winner of the Best RnB single May D, D'Banj, Mavin Crew, Wizkid, Ice-Prince and African Artiste of the year
Sarkodie.
