United weigh up shock RVP move
Manchester United are considering making a shock move for Gunners captain Robin van Persie, according to talkSPORT.
The Premier League's top scorer has only one year left on his Emirates Stadium contract, sparking rumours of a possible move away from north London.
Juventus, Real Madrid and Barcelona have all been linked with Van Persie, who has bagged 35 goals for the Gunners this season. The Dutchman has insisted that talks regarding a contract extension will be put off until the end of the season, but this has only intensified speculation of a move away from the Emirates.
Now Sir Alex Ferguson has jumped into the race to sign the forward, as the United boss looks to add to his squad. Ferguson has already said he plans to add two or three new faces in the summer and a swoop for Van Persie would certainly position United for a strong title challenge next season.
Manchester City are reportedly prepared to offer the Gunners captain £250,000 a week to join the Etihad Stadium, and United cannot afford to lose out again to their City rivals.
The Red Devils were thought to be interested in signing Samir Nasri before the Frenchman opted for Manchester City, and Ferguson will be keen to avoid a repeat scenario this year.
Van Persie has been in inspirational form for Arsenal this season, hauling them into the Champions League qualification places over a spectacular second half of the season.
But the Dutchman is likely to want his future resolved before he sets out for Holland's Euro 2012 campaign in Ukraine and Poland.
